Austin Chang walked on to UCLA Rowing in the fall of 2017, winning a spot on the roster after novice championships and debuting for the Bruins at the Naples Island Challenge. He raced in the Novice B boat at the Ballona Creek Grand Prix and sat bow in the Novice 8+ that won its category at the Long Beach duel.
