Biography

Hailing from Chandler, Arizona, Shaye Busse joined UCLA Rowing as a walk-on in 2015, quickly cementing a spot in the Novice 8+ before becoming a mainstay of the V8 his sophomore season. In addition to his success at WIRA, Pac-12s, and ACRA in 2017, Busse was also named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team. At the end of the season he was elected to be the team Safety Officer, ensuring rowers are staying safe athletically as well as academically, organizing team study sessions and major tutoring. So far this season Shaye has racked up medals at the Petaluma Marathon in the 1x and the Naples Island Rowing Challenge in the 4+, and set a course record en route to taking gold in the open 2x at San Diego Fall Classic. Shaye hopes to capitalize on his strong start to the season and help win some tanks for the Bruins come springtime.
