Bruins Open Season at West Coast Sevens

The UCLA Men's Rugby team will launch their 2025/2026 campaign this Saturday, September 27, at Dignity Health Sports Park, competing in the opening leg of the newly revamped West Coast Sevens. This is the first of three tournaments on the fall sevens calendar, offering the Bruins a chance to showcase their speed, skill, and depth while laying the foundation for the year ahead.

The West Coast Sevens has become a marquee event in the collegiate rugby calendar, bringing together elite programs from across the region. In the past the WC7s have been pivotal events for the likes of UCLA Rugby Alumni - Lucas Lacamp & Ben Broselle. Both were identified by USA Men's Sevens coaches from exceptional performances at prior WC7s tournaments. For UCLA this year, it's a key early benchmark against top competition and an opportunity for new players to step into the spotlight following the graduation of several senior leaders.

Head Coach Harry Bennett emphasized the value of the fall sevens campaign:

"The West Coast Sevens is a fantastic way to start our season. It challenges the boys to express themselves in open play, but also demands discipline, conditioning, and smart decision-making. It's a great early benchmark for us."

Game Day Schedule – Saturday, September 27

  • 9:40 a.m. – UCLA vs Cal #2 (Field 2)

  • 12:00 p.m. – UCLA vs USC (Field 2)

With three pool matches on Saturday, the Bruins will look to set the tone early in a demanding day of competition. The tournament environment not only sharpens combinations and fitness but also gives younger players vital experience under pressure.

The Bruins will feature in two additional West Coast Sevens tournaments later this fall before shifting focus back to XVs rugby in the winter and spring.
