UCLA Men’s Rugby Sets the Academic Standard in 2025

The UCLA Men's Rugby Team has once again proven that excellence isn't limited to the pitch. For the 2024–2025 academic year, the team recorded a remarkable 3.683 cumulative GPA, one of the highest academic performances not only in club sports but across UCLA Athletics as a whole. This achievement places UCLA Rugby among the top-performing academic teams in Westwood.

In a year filled with accolades, 14 student-athletes earned Dean's Honors recognition for maintaining a GPA of 3.9 or higher—an extraordinary proportion that reflects the team's collective discipline, intellectual engagement, and time management skills.

Even more impressively, the team celebrated 18 graduating seniors, marking the fourth consecutive year of a 100% graduation rate. In comparison, while many varsity teams at UCLA achieve high graduation success, maintaining a perfect rate across four years is an extremely rare and commendable accomplishment.

"Our players continue to raise the bar," said Head Coach Bennett. "When you consider the physical demands of our schedule and the academic rigor of UCLA, these numbers speak volumes about our culture and the quality of individuals we have in this program."

When compared to other UCLA Athletics programs, UCLA Men's Rugby's academic performance is truly elite. Many of the university's top-performing varsity teams averaged GPAs in the 3.2 to 3.5 range in recent years. The rugby team's 3.683 GPA surpasses this, placing it near the very top of UCLA's student-athlete academic leaderboard.

UCLA has long been known for developing champions in competition and in the classroom. UCLA Men's Rugby is a prime example of that dual excellence, proving that a championship mindset goes beyond wins and losses.

With continued leadership, support from alumni and the university, and a culture of accountability, the team is well-positioned to build on this legacy—showing that in UCLA Rugby, being a scholar-athlete is more than a motto; it's a tradition.
