Summary

Biography

After pitching for De La Salle High School for four years, Zack Kline walked on to UCLA Rowing as a freshman in 2015, sitting in the 1st Novice 8+ that defeated eventual WIRA champion UC Santa Barbara on Ballona Creek. He rowed the most meters and trained the most hours out of anyone on the team during summer 2016, earning a seat in the Varsity 8+ for Newport Chase and San Diego Fall Classic. Zack suffered a rib injury early during the winter of 2017 that took him out of action for the rest of the season but in the following summer racked up over 1.5 million meters and completed the Petaluma River Marathon in the 1x. In his junior season Kline has become a prominent leader on the team, racing in stern pair of the 4+ at Head of the Charles and the Varsity 8+ at Head of the American Varsity and San Diego Fall Classic. Along with teammate Shaye Busse, Kline set the San Diego Fall Classic course record in the 2x on the way to a gold medal. Off the water, he currently works in an organic chemistry research laboratory, developing and synthesizing a molecule that has been shown to fight cancer and receiving a generous stipend from donors for his research. With student-athletes like Zack leading the way, UCLA Rowing is in good hands for years to come!
