UCLA Club Track & Field

The Track & Field team after Spring 2024 Wacky Relays (last day of practice)

After recent establishment in 2015, UCLA Club Track & Field is already the biggest Club Sport on campus. Our program boasts a world-class track facility that is utilized annually by the best in the World for the LA Grand Prix and the "Legends" Invitational, USA Track & Field-licensed coaches with over 20 years' worth of experience (including collegiate, professional, and Olympic levels), and several Regional and National Champions in various events. In addition to improving your athletic skills, this club is a great place to meet amazing people and make friends. ALL are welcome on UCLA Club Track & Field.

What You Can Get out of Our Club
  1. Get in shape/stay in shape
  2. Improve on your own interval times, distances, marks, and personal bests
  3. Compete in races and meets (these are optional, but a good portion of our athletes participate in these!)
  4. Train for long distance road races (like half marathons and marathons)
  5. Find a community of athletes, make lifelong friends, and attend fun social events!

FAQs

Q: Are there tryouts?
A: No, Club Track & Field not hold tryouts. We do not cut. Anybody can join as long as they are a UCLA student.

Q: Can graduate students join?
A: Yes they can! We have had multiple graduate students as well as foreign exchange students.

Q: Do I have to be in shape/fast to join?
A: Nah! The mission of Club Track & Field is to provide a team running/field experience for all levels of fitness and experience. However, if you are looking to race in meets, we are still an extremely competitive team at the National level.

Q: Can I join UCLA Club Track & Field if I've never run track before?
A: Absolutely. The majority of our athletes come just to get consistent workouts in and stay in shape, so no pressure about track experience.

Q: Is there an attendance policy?
A: No, we do not have an attendance policy, nor keep record of attendance at all. However, as with any sport, consistency is key, so you will get out of Club Track whatever effort you put in. So we recommend coming as consistently as possible!

Q: What if I have a recurring weekly conflict during a certain day of practice?
A: That's okay! As mentioned above, we do not take attendance and there is no penalty for missed practices other than the missed opportunity to train and hang out with our awesome team!

Q: If I join the club do I have to compete?
A: No, meets and races are not mandatory. However, many of our athletes choose to participate because it's fun, you get to push yourself, and it's where some of the best track memories are made!
Many of our early-season meets are pretty chill. We compete against other Club teams in the area. Our later season meets get more competitive, and some even have standards, with D1 teams in attendance.

Q: Whom do we compete against?
A: Beginning in February, we compete in several All-Comers Meets and lower-level Invitationals around SoCal. These are mostly against other Club Track & Field teams, and/or D3 and D2 teams in the area.
In the Spring, we will start to compete in collegiate-level Invitationals across Southern California. There is also a Collegiate Club Track & Field National competition hosted by NIRCA in May for anyone who would like to attend.
