Bruins Gain Valuable Experience in D1A Clash with Cal

UCLA Men's Rugby hosted perennial powerhouse Cal Berkeley on Saturday at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, with the Golden Bears pulling away for a 60–14 victory in D1A league play.

While the final scoreline reflected Cal's experience and depth, the Bruins showed clear signs of progress throughout the match. UCLA produced multiple stretches of competitive, physical rugby, matching Cal's intensity in contact and creating attacking opportunities that demonstrated the program's continued development.

The decisive moments came at the end of each half. UCLA conceded two late tries in the final ten minutes before halftime and again in the closing stages of the match—momentum swings that significantly widened the margin and masked otherwise encouraging passages of play. Finishing halves with discipline and composure remains a key area of improvement and a point of pride the Bruins are committed to addressing.

Despite the result, the performance underscored a team moving in the right direction, gaining valuable experience against one of the nation's elite programs. As UCLA continues its D1A campaign, the focus remains on discipline in our detail, high work rate, and translating competitive phases into sustained results.

The Bruins will look to build on the positives from Saturday as they prepare for the next challenge this coming weekend as they host Grand Canyon University at Wallis Anneberg.
