Bruins Prepare for the Annual Dennis Storer Classic

Bruins use storied tournament as a reset and springboard into D1A League play

Los Angeles, Calif. — UCLA Men's Rugby will return to action next weekend as it hosts the annual Dennis Storer Classic, welcoming collegiate and U18s programs to campus for two days of high-level competition at the IM Rugby Fields.

The Dennis Storer Classic, a long-standing event on the Bruins' calendar, serves as both a tribute to one of UCLA Rugby's most influential figures and a proving ground for teams preparing for the challenges of the competitive season ahead. For UCLA, the tournament marks a deliberate reset following winter break and a critical tune-up before entering D1A League play.

After several weeks away from competition, the Bruins return with renewed focus, physical edge, and clarity of purpose. Training sessions since the start of the quarter have emphasized tempo, cohesion, and execution—key areas the squad aims to sharpen during the Classic.

"This tournament is about reestablishing the basics we worked on over the fall quarter as well as introducing some further detail," said coach Bennett. "The Dennis Storer Classic gives us a chance to reconnect as a group, test our systems under pressure, and set the standard before D1A competition begins."

The UCLA squad will face a demanding slate of opponents over the course of the weekend, providing valuable opportunities to evaluate combinations, build depth, and gain meaningful match minutes across the entire roster. With veteran leadership anchoring the squad and younger players pushing for roles, the Bruins view the tournament as a launching point rather than a destination.

Beyond the on-field action, the Dennis Storer Classic represents the culture and continuity of UCLA Men's Rugby—bringing together alumni, supporters, and the broader rugby community in celebration of the program's history and future.

As the Bruins take the field next weekend, the message is clear: winter break is over, the reset is complete, and UCLA is ready to build momentum toward the rigors of the D1A League.

Matches kick off Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the IM Rugby Fields.
Tickets can be purchased at the gates, including VIP for food & beverages or general admission. All rugby fans are encouraged to attend and support the Bruins.
