UCLA Men's Rugby delivered a commanding 69–0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, November 15th, at the picturesque Lower East Field—widely regarded as one of the most scenic venues in college rugby, with sweeping views over Monterey Bay and a pristine playing surface that set the stage for an outstanding day of competition.

The trip marked a historic first for the program, as UCLA brought two full sides to UCSC for a D1A League fixture. The occasion was elevated by the exceptional game-day environment hosted by Coach Sanford and the UCSC staff, whose collaborative efforts ensured an experience that players from both programs will carry with them.

Coming off a frustrating performance the previous week in a narrow win over Long Beach State, the Bruins entered Santa Cruz with clarity: raise the urgency off the ball and execute the game plan with discipline. From the opening whistle, the response was evident. UCLA controlled the tempo, moved with purpose, and demonstrated far greater cohesion in attack and defense. The improvement was significant across the board, even as the coaches emphasized that the squad still has plenty of room to grow as the season progresses.

Offensively, the Bruins showed variety, pace, and precision. Defensively, they were airtight—refusing to let UCSC build momentum and ultimately keeping the hosts scoreless. The performance set a new standard for the group as they continue to build toward their full potential.

UCLA's B side added to the milestone day with a strong showing of their own, also shutting out UCSC in a composed and physical outing. With both teams posting clean sheets, the program walked away from Santa Cruz proud of the strides made and energized by the collective effort.

The Bruins now turn their focus to the next challenge, encouraged by the progress shown but motivated to keep raising the bar.
