As we near the end of fall quarter of the 2023-2024 school year, our team continues to prepare for the upcoming season. During the first week of the quarter, we held a successful round of tryouts and welcomed 21 amazing new gymnasts to our team. Since then, our members have been training at least three times a week as the countdown to regionals begins and upgrade season continues!
As a start to the pre-season, the board members participated in a competition held by the Cal Gymnastics Club at UC Berkeley. In WAG, our co-captain, Alexander Kotnik, competed level 9 and placed first on vault with a 9.7, bars with a 7.5, and all-around with a 34.8. On beam, he took home the silver medal. Our co-president, Joshua Lim, also competed level 9 and placed 1st on beam with an 8.85. He placed 3rd on vault and 2nd all-around. Josh and Alex showed their bruin love with a tie on floor with a score of a 9.5. Our other co-president, Aaron Doyle, competed level 9 and took home the bronze for bars, beam, floor, and all-around. With a tsuk on vault, he placed 2nd with an 8.95.
Siena Hunt, our merchandise chair, competed level 8 and completely swept the podium, placing 1st on vault, beam, floor, and all-around with her highlight being a 9.6 on beam. At the platinum level, Kirin Chacko, our co-traveling coordinator, placed 1st on bars with a 9.5, beam with a 9.4, and all-around with a 37.8. She also placed 3rd on floor right behind our co-captain, Eliza Loftus, who placed 2nd on floor with a 9.5. Eliza took home the bronze for beam with an 8.95.
In MAG, Evan Leach, our fundraising chair, competed level 7 and placed 2nd on rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. He was a gold medalist for floor with a 10.2 and in all-around with a 49.6. Three of our board members, Alex, Josh, and Aaron competed on both MAG and WAG events. Aaron Doyle competed MAG level 9 and placed third on floor and all-around, as well as placing 1st on vault with an 11.4. Joshua Lim also competed level 9, placing 2nd on vault and all-around, and 1st on floor with an 11.5. At the NCAA level, Jonathan Moore, our safety officer, placed 3rd on floor, 2nd all-around, and 2nd on vault with an 11.6. Also at the NCAA level, Alexander Kotnik dominated the podium placing 1st on floor, vault, high bar, and all-around. He placed 2nd on pommel horse, but his highlight was his floor routine with a score of an 11.9. After a very successful first meet, we are looking forward to winter quarter and more upgrades to come!
