Under the grey and foreboding skies of the Port of Los Angeles, the Varsity squads of PAC-12 rivals UCLA and USC battled for the sought after Bob Hillen Cup on Saturday. The gloomy skies were possibly an omen of the result for the home crowds, as UCLA swept both the the Varsity four and Varsity eight races in dominant fashion.
The margin of victory highlighted the recent dominance that UCLA currently has in this duel. Our grip on the Bob Hillen Cup now extends back through a eight year long winning streak. Previous results can be found here. However Bruin fans at the event noticed a new energy in the USC boathouse, and the signs are obvious that USC has started a good rebuilding process and will be in a position to challenge for the Cup again within a few seasons.
This regatta was also the final Los Angeles race for our graduating seniors. Adela Armstrong-Spielberg, Mark Replogle and Dominic Pardini were in the winning Varsity Eight. While Sean Pierce and Jeremy Onofrei were in the winning Varsity Four.
The UCLA Rowing team now head on the road for the Championship part of the season.
