UCLA Women's Lacrosse Splits Tough Weekend

Over the weekend UCLA Women's Lacrosse played in two high scoring games against the University of Colorado and Santa Clara.

UCLA fought hard against CU Lacrosse on a cold evening last Friday, falling just short with the final score 11-10 to CU.

CU opened on the attack, scoring 2 goals within the first ten minutes. But the Bruins came back strong, scoring again and again through this first half. The two teams were fairly evenly matched through this half, matching each other point for point. Despite that, the Bruins managed to pull ahead by really attacking through the last minutes.

CU, however, managed to rally in the second half, scoring 3 times in the opening minutes. Fatigue began to show at this point, but despite that UCLA rallied to bring the score back to a tie with only ten minutes left.

Unfortunately, CU managed to get through the Bruins' defence to score two more goals – leaving the score at 11-9 with only two minutes left.

The Bruins dug deep, pulling out the last of their energy and Ashlynn got through to score again with only seconds left. They fought hard until the end, but unfortunately couldn't manage to break in to score again. The final score was 11-10, to CU.

Lacrosse head coach, Paige Lin, mentioned how the girls came out and fought hard, saying, "This will be good going into the league final game tomorrow, as it'll really motivate the girls." She also highlighted Katie Koller for scoring 4 of the Bruins' goals, and assisting with even more.

The next day the bruins faced a strong Santa Clara team. UCLA pulled out a decisive 17-11 victory of the Broncos.

The first 20 minutes of the game, strong defense and fast break offense lead to the bruins holding a 5-2 lead. Then a strategic time out by Santa Clara and a few fouls called on UCLA in front of the net the Broncos fought back to a 5-6 lead. UCLA fired back quickly with three more of their own but gave up a quick goal on the last second of the first half leaving the score at (8-7)

The first 8 minutes of the second half remained a tight contest when Santa Clara scored 3 goals and UCLA scored just one making the score (9-10) in favor of Santa Clara. While the first 38 minutes was tight, UCLA's superior stamina lead to the Bruins taking control of the game. In the rest of the second half UCLA scored seven consecutive goals and only let up a late consolation goal winning impressively 17-11.
