UCLA Boxing Club is a beginner friendly, fundamentals first program that builds students into collegiate level boxers. Our head coach Chris Rizo, retired with an undefeated record as a professional fighter & conquered 3 national championships as an amateur boxer. He helps us reach our goal which is to teach UCLA students real boxing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I join the club?

To officially join the club and practice with the team beyond week 2 you need to follow the ideal logic sign up procedure, pay the dues as follows on the website and complete the medical requirements! It's really straightforward once you begin the process but it is time consuming so if you think you are committed you should begin as soon as you can!

 
  • Are the first two weeks of classes free?

Yes, the first two weeks of classes are completely free, no paperwork! It’s a UCLA tradition called “Waiver Week” which is a trial period meant for students to decide if a club sports fits for them.

 
  • Where can I find the UCLA Boxing Club?

Our practices are in the John Wooden Center, on Tuesdays (Legacy Rm) & Fridays (Gold Rm) at 5:00 - 6:30pm. 

 
  • How can I join the competitive team?

Boxing Club usually holds tryouts around the middle - end of each quarter. Many students interested in competitive boxing have expressed intent to get straight into it upon signing up. We understand the enthusiasm but we recommend you practice, build your strength and break bread with our community. Boxing is a dangerous sport and part of proving that you’re prepared to step into the ring is becoming familiar with our coaches/ officers. All we ask is that you have patience.

 
  • Who is UCLA boxing for?

    • Can I join UCLA boxing if I don't go to UCLA?

    • Are Extension students and Graduate students allowed?

We’ve gotten a lot of questions surrounding “who is allowed to join the UCLA Boxing club?” If you are an enrolled student at UCLA (Extension, Transfer, or Graduate) you are eligible to train with the team. 

 
  • Is this the right club for beginners?

    • What skill levels do we target?

Yes, we train all skill levels. Our casual classes touch on all of the fundamental concepts of boxing. You’ll also go through some basic exercises and drills to build up your body to handle more difficult techniques later on in the quarter. In short, each week we increment in difficulty. By the end of the quarter you should have a good understanding of what boxing is.

 
  • Any women on your team?

Yep! We have quite a few!
