UCLA Boxing Defeats USC - Battle of the West

Last month on Saturday, Nov. 15, UCLA Boxing participated in the Battle of the West competition against notable collegiate boxing programs from around the country. The competition hosted 13 bouts and featured schools such as USC, El Camino College, UC Riverside, Stanford, and the Air Force Academy. UCLA sent out two fighters: 150 lb boxer Bo Zhang and 125 lb boxer Jason Zhang. To start off, Bo Zhang faced Leonardo Aguilar from Stanford at 150 lbs. Bo started strong, keeping Aguilar at bay, but Aguilar eventually won the bout by decision. Jason Zhang fought in a belt-deciding match against USC boxer Barsam Bakshian, who entered the bout with one win already under his belt. It was a chaotic match, with students from both UCLA and USC loudly supporting their fighters from ringside. Thankfully, Jason Zhang dominated the bout and won by unanimous decision.

In the end UCLA came away from the competition with one win and one loss.
