The UCLA Men's Rugby team travels north this weekend for the second leg of the West Coast Sevens Series, taking place on Saturday, October 11th at Steuber Rugby Stadium, hosted by Stanford University. Following an impressive start to their fall campaign — finishing as runners-up in the opening leg in Los Angeles — the Bruins are eager to continue their strong form and further develop their fast-paced Sevens game.
UCLA faces three competitive pool fixtures in Palo Alto:
-
9:00 AM – vs Grand Canyon University (GCU) at Stadium Field #1
-
11:00 AM – vs Cal 2nd XV at Field #2
-
12:20 PM – vs Stanford at Stadium Field #1
Head Coach Harry Bennett is looking forward to another opportunity for his side to test themselves against top regional programs.
"These tournaments are a great opportunity for our group to continue to grow," Bennett said. "Last tournament we showed glimpses of what we're capable of, and now it's about refining our execution, staying composed under pressure, and challenging ourselves against quality opposition."
The Bruins' squad features a strong mix of experienced returners and emerging young talent, which has helped establish consistency and depth across both legs of the competition. UCLA's dynamic attacking play and disciplined defense were key in Los Angeles, where the team won all three pool games before falling to Cal's first side in the championship final.
With the final scheduled for later in the afternoon, UCLA will be aiming to once again advance deep into the competition and maintain their position among the top collegiate Sevens programs on the West Coast.
