On Thursday February 3, 2022, UCLA Wushu performed at the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA)'s Lunar New Year Festival at the Grand Horizons Room at Covel Commons. The club performed twice that evening with great success.
Unlike most club sports which just focus on tournaments, UCLA Wushu also focuses on performances as part of its training schedule. Performances offer the opportunity for the club to experiment with choreography, demonstrate their skills in a competition-free environment, and to focus on raising the awareness of wushu's place in Chinese culture. This marks the club's first in-person public performance since February 2020.
Preparation for the event was not easy as all preceding practices had to take place outside on the Intramural Field. Choreography for the group routines only started taking shape during the preceding Friday and individual performers had to learn to adjust their minute-twenty routines to showcase their best in only thirty seconds. With great dedication and leadership, the club was successfully able to prepare for this event.
