A rare trip into the desert of Arizona has been successful, with the UCLA Men's Rowing team recording a win the Varsity Four over Arizona State University.
Pac12 Conference rivals Arizona State have been building some strong crews in recent times, and are expected to make their debut at the Pac12 Rowing Championships in May. To support their growing program, UCLA sent over some crews to duel, and build a competitive relationship between the two programs. The Varsity Four for UCLA was lead by
Shaye Busse whose hometown is Tempe. He was joined by
Mark Replogle,
Jeremy Onofrei,
Matt Horner and coxswain
Kate Hirth. Also racing against ASU was a Walk On novice four of
John Chou, Joey Danahy,
Zack Ferrin,
Kii Kellerman and coxswain
Kaitie Daugherty.
ASU were generous hosts, and allowed us to use their equipment. Racing on their short 1000m course, the racing format was a best of 3 races competition. Racing was very even and results were split, but UCLA were victorious in the Varsity grade and ASU won the Novice grade.
