So. Undeclared I sort of grew up sailing, since before I could remember. I learned to skipper a yacht before I could drive in a straight line... I should really learn how to drive better...
  • Aleksander Briones

    Crew
Sr. Sociology I had only sailed once before joining the team, but I grew up being out on the water all the time and wanted to try a new sport. Sailing sounded like the perfect combination of a new sport and a fun way to get out on the ocean!
    Glendale, CA
  • Tabitha Campbell

    Crew
Jr. Major: Communication / Minors: Entrepreneurship and Film, Television & Digital Media I've always loved swimming, going to the beach, and just all things ocean, so when I found out UCLA had a sailing team, I knew it was something I had to be a part of. Even though I've only just joined the team at the beginning of this quarter with no prior sailing experience, I already feel like I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. Moving forward, I can't wait to keep learning to become the best sailor I can be and continue making incredible memories with all the members of this fabulous team!
    La Quinta, CA
  • Alyssa Cardenas

    Crew
Fr. Applied Linguistics To develop a new skill, travel around California, and to meet adventurous people through the sailing.
    Santa Clarita, California
  • Brendan Connelly

So. International buisness I have sailed for most of my life doing trips and internships on catamarans. My family and I love sailing from 3 weeks every summer in the south of France. I had never done competitive sailing before which is why I was really interested.
    Toulouse, France
  • Della Eckenrod

Jr. Biochemistry I started sailing this past summer, and I couldn’t give it up when school started! Plus I love taking pictures of the boats and my all friends sailing.

  • John Flanagan

    Skipper and Crew
Jr. Computer Science I started from scratch freshman year, and now I’m cracked. Thanks captains!
    Denver, CO
  • Phineas Fritsch

    Crew
Fr. Financial Actuarial Mathematics / Accounting I started sailing at summer camps in second grade starting with Optis and eventually moving the larger boats such as C420s and 29ers. I joined the ECHS sailing team during freshman of high school but sadly had to leave because of medical issues and transferring schools. I have a love-hate relationship with FJs, but they've grown on me. What I love most about sailing is how dynamic it is - the adaptability it requires. Light wind sailing feels and is very different to heavy wind, yet skill sets in both transfer over. This always keeps me on my toes, which makes it fun and engaging.
    El Cerrito, CA
  • John Gallagher

    Skipper
Sr. Physics I have been sailing with the team since coming to UCLA, fulfilling a lifelong dream. I love the community and the chance to explore California’s coast!

So. Economics and Psychology I've been sailing since I was 12 years old, and it's always been a big part of my life. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I had to take a break from sailing. When I came to college, I was really looking forward to getting back into it, eager to rekindle my love for the sport and enjoy the unique sense of freedom that comes from being out on the water. Sailing has always been a great way for me to relax and disconnect, and I’m excited to have restarted it in college.
