Life as a Bruin

Q: How has the transition into college been?
K: "My transition into college has been pretty smooth. I think I found my footing well and adjusted to the new environment good. So far my favorite class has been the Gender Studies course I took last term."
J: "College has been a mix of both stressful and fun. I have met a lot of new people who I enjoy being around, but the workload is insane. It is hard trying to balance both academics and social life but I am making it work."

Everyone has a different journey in college. Don't ever compare your experience to someone else's! It's important to remember there will be ups and downs, but its important to always push through your downs so that you can enjoy the highs! Never be afraid to reach out for help when things seem a little hard. Even more so, make sure to go experience new things! That is the college experience.

Q: Besides club softball, are involved in any clubs or organizations on campus?
J: "Besides club softball, I am also a part of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority on campus."
Getting involved is a great way to make new connections with others. Clubs are great ways to make new friends, network, try new things, or get started on career planning. UCLA has far over 1000 clubs, meaning there is something for everyone! (Like club softball 😉)

Q: What is your favorite spot on campus?
K: "My fav spot is the grass area in front of Lu Valle."
J: "My favorite spot on campus is Sunset Rec. Especially on a hot day, it is really relaxing to sit on the grass and sunbathe, tan, do homework, etc."

Think of UCLA as your all inclusive resort! There are so many different amenities on campus: Sunset Rec, Student Activities Center, John Wooden Center/Bruin Fitness Center, Massage Mondays, Game Centers, and so much more! All of these are free to UCLA students so make sure you use them. Not only that, but we are at the center of a popular city with plenty of activities to do, weather that is in Westwood or the greater LA region.

Q: How do you spend your weekends or decompress?
K: "I spend my weekends going around LA and finding new spots to eat."
J: "On the weekends, I am usually hanging out with friends, whether that be going out, exploring the city, or just chilling in our dorm. I also go home on some weekends to see my family."

It is so important to remember to have fun. The academics of college can sometimes be overwhelming or even draining. Lighten the load by setting some time aside to have fun or to take a break. Even when you feel like you have no time, there is always 5 minutes you can spare to just have time to yourself before getting back to work.

Q: What has your experience with Club Softball been like?
K: "I have been loving club! It is really refreshing to be a part of a team and getting to play the sport I love. My favorite thing about being a part of the team is when we get together for our socials."
J: "Club Softball has been an amazing experience so far. I have met the greatest girls who I genuinely enjoy to hang around and never fail to make me laugh. My favorite memory was our Arizona trip, I love how much closer we all got after it ended."

Club Softball works really hard to create a positive team environment that people feel welcome at and want to be a part of! We take a lot of pride in our ability to do just that. From team bonding events to our travel weekend to Arizona, we always have fun together. We love all of our players and we welcome anyone who want to be a part of our team. Remember, if you're ever interested in joining our team or being involved in any way, always feel free to reach out! (Contact info below.)

Looking to the future

Q: What do you look forward to next year, after finishing your freshman year at UCLA?
K: "I look forward to having a better dorm."
J: "I look forward to being done with the LS 30 series. I also am very excited to live in the sorority house next year."
It's important to have things you look forward to, it helps the hard moments pass by easier and the anticipation can often serve as a motivator. Having things to look forward to can be anything from a self-care day to going out with our friends!

Q: What advice do you have for incoming UCLA freshmen?
K: "I advise incoming freshmen to put themselves out there and meet friends who make being away from home feel okay."
J: "Please don't compare yourself to others. Everyone's path here is different, so focus on your own path and what works best for you."

We can't wait to see what the future of these freshmen have in store!
Go Bruins!
