After a heartbreaking loss for UCLA Women's Club Volleyball's A team in the 2023 National Championship against their hometown rival USC, the Bruins started their 2023-2024 season with one goal: bringing home the gold. Going into their season holding the #2 spot in the nation, this team was determined to live up to their name.
The Bruins had a very successful season this past year, winning the SDSU invitational, the MLK invitational, and the SCCVL League Championships. Entering the NCVF Nationals Tournament in Kansas City ranked #4 in the nation, they were definitely the team to beat given their amazing performance at Nationals the year before.
The A team showed that they deserved to be #1 in the nation, going head-to-head with top teams across the country and finishing Nationals with an incredible 9-0 undefeated streak. In the championship, played in Kansas City's T-mobile Arena, the Bruins faced off against Utah Valley - one of only two teams that were lucky enough to win a game against the nearly undefeated Bruins this past season.
The energy in the team room before the game was electric. After some scouting and strategizing, one of the players etched out a simple game plan on the white board in the team room: Win.
The Bruins definitely stuck to this game plan as they defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines in two straight sets, absolutely crushing in the second set with a final score of 25-16. The booming voice of the TV commentator said it best as the last kill of the game went down:
"The redemption story is complete - the UCLA Bruins women are your 2024 National Champions".
The team would like to thank their coaches and all of their supporters that helped them achieve this tremendous feat, and are excited for what is to come in their next season.
