Fall Quarter Recap with UCLA Kendo!

Fall Quarter Recap with UCLA Kendo!

UCLA Kendo had a great fall quarter this year, with 5 new members and great practices throughout the quarter. As a result of the team working hard, we have some results to share!

UCLA Kendo participated in the SCKO Individual Championships at West Torrance High School on October 6th, 2024. The team fought hard and placed 3rd place in the team division, starting off the year strong.

Later into the quarter, the team participated in the 2024 SCKO Christmas tournament. Many of our members produced great results, including Team Captain Daichi Sakai and Alumni Kyle Pagdayunan who each placed 3rd in the 3-4 Dan Division, along with Assistant Coach Paul Hirose who also placed 3rd in the 1-2 Dan Division.

Of course, the year is only started and the team has more events and challenges coming its way. To note, there are many competitions and joint practices, including the Torrance 50th Anniversary Tournament on January 25th and the UCLA-hosted Collegiate Joint Practice on February 2nd, 2025, just in the first month of the winter quarter! As we work towards these events, we hope to continue practicing hard, supported by all those cheering us on and the friendships we make on our journey down this path towards great swordsmanship!
