UCLA wrestling will be practicing freestyle for Spring 2023. In wrestling, there are three popular styles: folk style, free style, and greco-roman. Freestyle and greco-roman are used in the Olympics and practiced internationally, while folkstyle is the main style of wrestling in the United States. Between the three styles, there are some major differences in how the matches are scored and what types of moves are allowed. The video here shows the differences between the styles.

If you have been practicing with us for the past couple quarters, we have been training and competing in folkstyle. But in the spring, there's more options in the style of wrestling the tournaments use, with many of the tournaments offered being freestyle and greco roman. We are excited to expand our program to encompass other styles of wrestling, and will be transitioning to freestyle for the coming quarter. Not to worry though if you're a folk style lover, we will be returning to folkstyle in the fall to prepare for the winter season.
