How has the past year affected your club, positively and/or negatively?
The past year has affected negatively on our club's recruitment and member engagements. Judo club recruits majority of its members through Judo recreation class as participants who complete the recreation class would register for the Judo club.The absence of Judo recreation last year due to the pandemic has made it impossible for the club to recruit new members.
Member engagements has also decreased due to the impossibility to arrange a club practice. The lack of in-person interactions between members discouraged members to keep in touch with each other. As a result, a number of members did not continue participating in the club.
First, we plan to recruit as many members as we can to compensate for the loss of its members from the past year by putting our main focus on promoting the club through social medias. Second, we aim to recover our members' readiness for competitions by implementing a well-structured practice schedule and syllabus.
What's the biggest thing you, personally, are looking forward to next school year?
We look forward to the club practices and being able to organize in-person activities. We are excited to see what new club members will bring for the next year.
How did your team keep morale and camaraderie alive during the past year?
One of the most important elements of our club is the supportiveness of members toward each other. We relied on online interactions through different platforms such as Discord and Facebook to make sure that members stay connected and that each member received any support they needed. Apart from frequent texting through a Facebook group chat, we organized an online meeting session once every 1-2 weeks for games and activities.
