Equestrian: '21-22 Season Preview

Responses by: Whitney Hawthorne, Co-president

How has the past year affected your club, positively and/or negatively?
"Due to the pandemic we were unable to compete at all this past year and were only allowed to practice Spring quarter. This made it difficult for us to build relationships with one another, especially with new members."

"We also had a hard time covering the deficit that we are currently in because lower morale made it difficult to fundraise. We also moved barns recently and many of our members have not even seen the new facility or met the new horses. This will make transitioning to in person more difficult."

What is the club's main goal for next year?
"I think that our biggest goal is to be able to compete again. We really get a lot of bonding moments with one another when we work together to put on a show and go to other college's shows. Competing also allows us to build our horsemanship and riding skills."

"Another goal of ours is to recruit a lot of new members for the team so that we can get to know new faces and have more people help us in competitions. We would also really enjoy the ability to put on socials together again too."

What's the biggest thing you, personally, are looking forward to next school year?
"I think the biggest thing I am personally looking forward to is getting to know new members and bonding with my teammates over our love of horses."

How did your team keep morale and camaraderie alive during the past year?
"We did our best to provide those who were able to practice to do so. We also kept up with one another on our GroupMe!"
