USC defeats UCLA in Game 2 of the Crosstown Cup

It was a smorgasbord of goals this past Thursday at the Pickwick Ice Rink in Burbank, California in Game 2 of the Crosstown Cup. And the Bruin faithful - they expected nothing less.

A total of 13 goals were scored between the Trojans and Bruins, but UCLA fell just one short of tying the game to send the Bruins into overtime. USC defeated UCLA 7 - 6.

USC scored just a minute and six seconds into the game. Bruin forward Tyler Sheppy wasted no time in bringing the game back to even with a goal just 50 seconds later.

Sheppy's goal was the first in a series of goals for the Bruins in the first period. Forwards Theo Haboucha and Leo Gretzinger would send UCLA into the lockerrooms with a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

The Trojans followed with a string of goals themselves in the second, scoring five consecutive each with minutes apart.

UCLA would reel in the USC lead within two with a goal just a minute and a half left in the second period.

After opening up the third with a Trojan goal at the 1:38 mark, UCLA attempted a comeback that fell just short. Following that Trojan goal, UCLA goalie Matthew Bodhan substituted himself off the rink in displeasure and hit the showers early. Max Muller took over net duties and shut the Trojan forwards down for the rest of the game, rising to the occasion when it mattered most.

Down 7-4, UCLA found the net twice behind the sticks of team captain and forward Peter Katz and forward P.J. Smigliani. The Bruins had seven minutes left to figure a way to knot up the score, but seven was not enough.
